Bison Spotlight: Incoming student body president and vice president Kaley Quam and Drew LeBrun

NDSU’s new student body president, Kaley Quam, and student body vice president, Drew LeBrun, are eager to connect and give back to the campus community.
“I’ve had a lot of fun and a lot of growth while here at NDSU, and I’m very eager to help make our university a place where all students and community members can have that experience,” said Quam, a pharmacy major from Underwood, Minnesota. “I’ve always been a people person, and this position would provide an excellent platform for connection with both fellow students and other individuals on campus. This connection would help me to advocate for the needs of campus, based on real conversations and areas for improvement.”
LeBrun, who has been involved in Student Government for the past two years, wants to continue being a part of improving the overall student experience.
“This new role will allow me to play an active part in continuing the legacy of our students and the university and to hopefully leave the university a better place than when we arrived,” said LeBrun, an electrical engineering major from Trenton, North Dakota.
Among their priorities for the next academic year are advocating for the NDSU student body in the upcoming 2027 legislative session, implementing an AI usage scale to standardize verbiage around topics relating to AI and collaborating with faculty partners to ensure students have access to class materials, such as syllabi, before classes start.
Quam and LeBrun also plan to continue working on campus safety and Fall Break initiatives, and they also hope to build awareness and trust between Student Government and the student body by attending as many student events as they can.
Campus involvement has been a big part of Quam and LeBrun’s NDSU experience. Both have been heavily involved in extracurricular activities outside of the classroom and have gained valuable skills along the way that they will apply to their student body president and vice president roles, as well as their future careers. From communication and time-management skills to collaboration, critical thinking and patience, Quam and LeBrun credit their student involvement for becoming the leaders they are today.
“Being involved, meeting and learning with the different people I have met and the friends I have made along the way are the main things that have made my NDSU experience as great as it has been and are all things that I will take with me when I graduate from NDSU,” LeBrun said.
NDSU ensures students have the resources they need to be successful in leadership roles. Quam and LeBrun said they have been entrusted with responsibilities and leadership opportunities, both in and outside of the classroom.
“All students are given chances to utilize, practice and showcase the leadership skills that we develop, rather than waiting until we enter our careers to get real-world practice. NDSU students have opportunities to try a multitude of clubs, organizations, and service-based projects until we find something that aligns with our skills and interests - something about which we are passionate,” Quam said.
As they look ahead to the next academic year, Quam and LeBrun are excited to enter their new roles.
“I am excited and energized by the opportunity to serve the students of NDSU by being a champion for them to administration, staff, faculty and the North Dakota Legislature,” Quam said. “This position is the foremost way I can fulfill my calling as a servant leader and work towards giving other students opportunities for advancement and excellence.”
“I am very excited and honored to be given the privilege of being a voice for the NDSU student body,” LeBrun said. “In my role, I will work with the Executive team and our Student Senators to not only work to help improve the experiences on our campus but to represent our goals, missions and aspirations across not just NDSU but to the State and the rest of the world.
Students can connect with Quam, LeBrun and the rest of Student Government by stopping by the Student Government office located on the first floor of the Memorial Union.
