NDSU student receives YWCA Women of the Year Award

Sarah Kruse, a senior majoring in biology and statistics, has been named the YWCA's 2026 Young Woman of Today & Tomorrow during the YWCA Cass Clay’s 53rd annual Women of the Year event on Monday, April 20, 2026.
The Young Woman of Today & Tomorrow award honors an individual aged 15 to 22 who is creating a brighter future for everyone, and has demonstrated exceptional leadership, scholastic ability, volunteer service or has made bold achievements. The award also recognizes an individual whose work has only just begun and will continue to impact others well into the future.
Kruse is among 34 women from Cass and Clay counties who were recognized for shaping the community through their passion, service, and achievements.
“I would love to highlight YWCA and the impactful work they do, as well as the incredible women I was nominated alongside,” Kruse said. “The YWCA Women of the Year program has a long-standing history dating back to 1973, and I am humbled to join a beautiful legacy of impactful leaders. I’m also deeply grateful for the NDSU community, including friends and mentors, who have supported me in challenging norms and pushing for meaningful change.”
Kruse has been involved in Kappa Delta sorority, playing an active role in empowering local Girl Scouts as part of the chapter’s service and philanthropy program. Additionally, she is involved in Blue Key National Honor Society, the Campus Attraction Programming Board, is a Welcome Week intern for the Student Success Office, works as an ambassador in the NDSU Bookstore and serves as Executive Commissioner for Access and Opportunity in Student Government.
The YWCA Cass Clay operates the largest shelter for women and children in North Dakota and northwest Minnesota, providing emergency and supportive housing services. The organization supports survivors of domestic violence and homelessness through trauma-informed programs focused on health, employment, and education.
