Scholar Recognition event celebrates visiting scholars, international postdocs and other researchers

The Faculty Immigration Office recently hosted its annual Scholar Recognition Reception, a tradition spanning more than 30 years that celebrates the vital contributions of visiting scholars, international postdocs and other researchers — groups with contributions that are often “hidden” within academia.
The event highlights their impact on NDSU, the broader community, and their respective research fields. This year’s scholar community represents 33 departments, primarily in plant sciences and plant pathology, and includes individuals from 34 countries, among them a Fulbright Scholar.
The 2026 Scholar Recognition Award was presented to Milsha George, research assistant professor in plant pathology nominated by Febina Mathew, in recognition of her innovative work on emerging plant pathogens, globally significant research on Diaporthe diseases, and dedication to translating science into practical agricultural solutions. George’s contributions also reflect a strong commitment to student-centered education, interdisciplinary collaboration and community engagement through hands-on training initiatives that strengthen research capacity at partner institutions.
Special gratitude is extended to the event’s guest speakers – Provost Shari Veil and Heidi Grunwald, the interim vice president for research and creative activity.
