NDSU to celebrate opening of Bolley Agricultural Laboratory with ribbon cutting and dedication
NDSU invites faculty, staff, students, elected leaders, friends and community members to the ribbon cutting and dedication of the Bolley Agricultural Laboratory at 1650 18th Street North on Monday, Aug. 10 at 10:30 a.m.
The event is free and open to the public. No registration is required. On-site parking is available in the BL lot.
Following the dedication ceremony, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in guided tours to experience firsthand the innovative spaces that will support discovery, collaboration and hands-on learning at NDSU.
About the Bolley Agricultural Laboratory
The Bolley Agricultural Laboratory was made possible through a transformative $87 million investment from the North Dakota Legislature in 2023, along with an additional $3.6 million in philanthropic support.
This state-of-the-art facility will help NDSU maintain its position at the forefront of agricultural innovation that it has held since opening in 1890. The Bolley Agricultural Lab will serve as a hub for agricultural innovation at NDSU, supporting research and education in plant pathology, plant breeding, weed science, agronomy, soil science and horticulture.
The laboratory is named for Henry L. Bolley, one of the first faculty members at North Dakota Agricultural College, now NDSU. He was the first plant pathologist at the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station and was also the founder and coach of the university’s football team. In addition to teaching from 1890 to 1945, Bolley also served as the state seed commissioner from 1909 to 1929.
The Bolley Agricultural Laboratory is located on the western edge of NDSU’s campus and overlooks agricultural plots immediately adjacent to campus. It replaces many of the current field lab facilities constructed decades ago.
The new facility and the research conducted there will drive innovation related to North Dakota’s agricultural industry, one of its largest economic sectors.
