One scholarship. One student. A future shaped by opportunity.

When Addison Uglem arrived at NDSU from Northwood, North Dakota, she knew she wanted to get involved. For a student coming from a small town, getting involved helped NDSU feel a little smaller.
“It helped make NDSU feel more like a community,” Uglem said.
Today, Uglem is a marketing major with a minor in agribusiness, an accelerated MBA student and an active member of the NDSU community. She has been involved in Kappa Delta, Women in Business, S/S, Bison Catholic and the Agribusiness Club. She has served on executive boards, participated in community service and even traveled to France through a study abroad experience.
This year, Uglem is one of more than 300 College of Business students receiving a scholarship. For the first time, College of Business donors have given more than $1 million in scholarships to students.
That is a milestone worth celebrating. But behind the $1 million are students like Uglem.
For her, receiving a scholarship is about more than help with the cost of college.
“Knowing that people are willing to invest in my education takes some of that pressure away,” she said. “It allows me to focus on my learning, campus involvement and making the most of my time at NDSU.”
Uglem says her scholarships make her feel like the work she is putting into her education and involvement is being recognized. That encouragement motivates her to keep pushing herself and taking advantage of the opportunities in front of her.
And that is the impact of a scholarship.
It can give a student a little more room to focus on school. It can make an experience like studying abroad possible. It can encourage a student to get involved, take on a leadership role or pursue a graduate degree. It can help a student see possibilities for their future that they may not have seen when they first stepped onto campus.
Someday, Uglem hopes to pay it forward and help another student the way donors have helped her.
“I hope that in the future I can have the same kind of impact on someone else that you are having on me today,” Uglem said.
More than $1 million in scholarships represents a tremendous investment in our students, our College of Business and the future of the communities they will go on to serve.
Uglem is one student. Her story is one example. And there are more than 300+ students whose stories are being shaped by the generosity of College of Business donors.
To every donor who makes these opportunities possible: thank you for investing in our students, believing in their potential and helping them build futures they are proud of.
