Opening Doors through Scholarships: How Lena Joshy found confidence at NDSU

Lena Joshy came to NDSU with a goal to become a more confident version of herself. She wanted to get involved, meet people and push herself outside her comfort zone. Along the way, she discovered that college would give her plenty of opportunities to do all three.

Now an accounting major with a minor in fraud investigation, Joshy has found her place in the College of Business through experiences like Business Ambassadors and Student Made. Each has given her a chance to learn something new, connect with others and become more comfortable stepping into new roles.

“I didn’t know exactly how much this school would shape who I am today,” Joshy said.

Her academic path has given her plenty of challenges, too. Joshy is working toward a career as a CPA, a goal that requires dedication, long nights and plenty of hard work.

Having people in her corner has made that journey a little easier.

This year, Joshy is one of more than 300 College of Business students who received a scholarship, and she sees that support as more than help with the cost of college. To her, a scholarship is a sign that someone believes she can succeed.

“It’s not just financial relief, but it’s also a token of the confidence that you have in me,” Joshy said.

That confidence matters.

Knowing that donors are willing to invest in her education motivates Joshy to keep working hard and take advantage of the opportunities around her. It reminds her that her education is not something she is pursuing alone. There are people who believe in her potential and want to see what she can accomplish.

“To our generous donors, thank you from the bottom of my heart,” Joshy said. “Your support has opened many doors and changed my life.”

NDSU Giving Day

This year, College of Business donors provided more than $1 million in scholarships to students. Every scholarship represents an investment in a student’s education and future.

Help us create opportunities for students like Lena. NDSU Giving Day is Tuesday, Oct. 27, and brings together alumni, students, faculty, staff, parents and friends to support the people and programs that make NDSU exceptional.
