Briggs named Clouston Family Fellow

Steven Briggs, associate professor in the NDSU Department of Political Science and Public Policy, has been named a Clouston Family Political Science and Public Policy Faculty Fellow, a three-year appointment that recognizes distinguished research, teaching and service within the College of Arts and Sciences.
Briggs joined NDSU in 2013 with expertise in crime and public policy. His work examines prevention and responses to crime by law enforcement as well as public interactions with officers. He has published in leading journals, presented at international research conferences and earned recognition for both scholarly productivity and mentorship.
At NDSU, Briggs teaches courses in law, public policy, and American government. He is known for integrating real-world policy changes into his classes and for supporting students in undergraduate and graduate research. His peer-reviewed articles, presentations at international research conferences, and media contributions reflect a commitment to clear, accessible scholarship that informs public understanding of crime and government responses to it.
Briggs holds a doctorate in criminal justice from the University of Nebraska Omaha and has received several awards for teaching and research. He remains actively engaged in scholarship that informs evidence-based policy discussions.
As a Clouston Family Fellow, Briggs will advance ongoing research while contributing to the college’s mission of supporting high-impact scholarship across disciplines. The fellowship honors faculty who display exceptional achievement and the potential for continued leadership in their fields.
The Clouston Family Political Science and Public Policy Faculty Fellowship is supported by NDSU alumnus David Clouston and his wife, Stephanie. David Clouston is a corporate lawyer based in Dallas, Texas with more than 20 years of experience representing businesses in complex securities, business and employment litigation. He earned his bachelor’s degree in political science and government at NDSU and his juris doctorate from Baylor University. Stephanie Clouston is a lead litigator with Alston and Bird’s Dallas practice and represents clients in major commercial disputes and regulatory and investigate matters.
