NDSU President David Cook delivered his opening testimony to the North Dakota Senate Appropriations Energy and Environmental Committee on Wednesday, January 15, providing a detailed overview of the university's priorities for the session. His testimony highlighted the importance of strategic investments in education, student support and research to drive growth and innovation in North Dakota.

NDSU is requesting $35 million for the next biennium, which includes $5 million to ensure successful pathways for workforce impact, industry connection and affordability; $15 million to help grow North Dakota’s competitive edge through advancement of agriculture, engineering, energy and manufacturing; and $15 million to help improve North Dakota’s quality of life by expanding, modernizing and meeting workforce demands in health-related fields including nursing, pharmacy and allied sciences.
NDSU also supports requests from the State Board of Higher Education and North Dakota University System including a higher education funding formula review; Challenge Grant funding of $50 million; Economic Diversification Research Funding of $25 million; $4 million each for NDSU and the University of North Dakota for high-performance computing; the compensation package, a $4,724,723 inflation factor increase; the North Dakota Public Employees Retirement System; and Envision 2035 plan.
NDSU also strongly endorses Governor Kelly Armstrong’s budget proposal, which includes the requested $50 million for the North Dakota Challenge Grant program. This program matches $1 in state funding for every $2 donated by private contributors, supporting scholarships, faculty initiatives and academic programs.
