The Doctor of Service Award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to their college communities and beyond through service and leadership. It is one of the highest honors given by Blue Key, a national organization that promotes scholarship, leadership and service.
Montplaisir was praised for her extensive dedication to NDSU students, faculty and the broader higher education community in North Dakota.
“I am truly honored and humbled by the students of Blue Key for this recognition,” Montplaisir said. “I love what I am able to do in my career at NDSU. To be able to share my talents and strengths in a meaningful way for our community is a big part of the work I choose to do. I get to teach, learn and grow with students and colleagues every day. I have been incredibly fortunate for the opportunities and look forward to many more years at NDSU.
In addition to her work in the classroom, Montplaisir serves as the faculty representative on the North Dakota State Board of Higher Education and as president of NDSU’s Faculty Senate. She is a member of the president’s Cabinet, where she helps guide key university decisions.
A first-generation college graduate from West Fargo, Montplaisir’s research in science education, supported by the National Science Foundation, has improved learning outcomes at both the secondary and collegiate levels.
“Lisa is the epitome of selfless service, dedication and leadership,” NDSU President David Cook wrote in his nomination letter. “Her unwavering commitment to our students, faculty and higher education system makes her an outstanding candidate for this recognition.”
Students regularly commend Montplaisir for her ability to amplify their voices in university governance and policy discussions, a quality colleagues say distinguishes her leadership style.
The NDSU chapter of Blue Key Honor Society traditionally presents the Doctor of Service Award each year to honor those who demonstrate exceptional commitment to the university’s mission.
