Fargo artist Kimble A. Bromley’s work, “Flowers Near the Pond,” will be on display at the Plains Art Museum as part of the FMVA Studio Crawl Preview Exhibition.

Each year, Fargo Moorhead Visual Artists presents the Studio Crawl -- a popular, free event that gives the community access to professional artist studios. The Studio Crawl is an opportunity for people to meet artists, see demonstrations, and purchase their work.

As a collaboration between the museum and FMVA, the museum is proud to announce this year’s preview exhibition, containing artwork from participating artists displayed a month prior to the studio crawl weekend.

This year’s Studio Crawl will take place on Saturday, Oct. 1, and Sunday, Oct. 2, and over 80 artists will have artwork on view in 39 different locations.

Bromley's exhibition, “Moby-Dick,” will be on view at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum in Winona, Minnesota from Sept. 8 through Jan. 7, 2024.

This exhibition features 23 expressive paintings by Bromley, inspired by the true 19th century account of a large whale attacking the whaling ship Essex, and Herman Melville's classic novel “Moby-Dick” inspired by this remarkable event.

“These paintings develop from my own personal life experiences, life experiences as Melville presents aboard the whaling ship Pequod,” Bromley said. “These experiences are human experiences we can all relate to in some way.”

Bromley is a professor of art at NDSU teaching painting, drawing and art history. Bromley will be presenting his Creativity Enhancement Workshop on Oct. 28 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Bismarck Art and Gallery Association will feature Bromley's Giverny Paintings Sept. 5 through Sept. 29.

Bromley's exhibit is a result of his exploration of his pond and Monet's Giverny. He lives on 20 acres made up of 12 acres of woods and an 8-acre pond. There, he paints on location celebrating the light and color he encounters.

In 2019 he had the opportunity to travel to France to study Monet's paintings and to visit his gardens in Giverny. It was an inspirational experience and the paintings in this exhibit are his interpretation of the gardens Monet so lovingly created.

Bromley will offer his Creativity Enhancement Workshop on Sept. 30, from 10 to noon.
