Senior Design Expo showcases student projects

SHARE

The NDSU College of Engineering held its 2023 Winter Senior Design Expo Dec. 6 in the Memorial Union Oceti Sakowin Ballroom. The event featured the work of more than 20 senior design teams.

Student teams work on their projects for one or two semesters depending on the program. Many work closely with an industry sponsor who also serves as a mentor and provides valuable guidance.

“As part of our mission to make sure our graduates are field-ready, every major in the College of Engineering concludes with a capstone experience. The course draws upon our students’ entire education and immerses them in hands-on projects, typically for actual business and industry clients,” said Alan Kallmeyer, interim dean of the College of Engineering. “These projects provide important real-world experience and help them develop critical skills they will use throughout their careers.”

This winter’s expo also featured 16 final projects from first-year students in the Introduction to Mechanical Engineering course. They worked in teams to design toys and games that demonstrate an engineering concept to kids. Students from area middle schools attended the expo to learn more about the projects and test out the toys and games.
