Student-run café scheduled to open

Students in the nutrition and dietetics program at the North Dakota State University Campus gain hands-on experience managing a foodservice operation through the 800 café, an on-campus student run restaurant located in the Family Life Center.
The café is operated as part of the nutrition science/dietetics curriculum and provides students with real-world experiences.
The 800 café features weekly rotating meals that are 800 calories or less, which is where the café gets its name. All meals have a focus on whole foods and making as many meals as possible from scratch.
Student managers, Brooklyn Motz from Willow River, Minnesota, and Ashley Klomps from Byron, Minnesota will oversee the restaurant serving on Thursday, Feb. 26. Their theme is Citrus and Comfort café in FLC312 on campus.
The menu will include:
- Starter: mixed greens salad with tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, including a feta crumble, and with a side of smooth balsamic vinaigrette.
- Main entrée will include a lemon marinated red pepper flake chicken on top of rotini noodles served with steamed broccoli and cannellini beans.
- Dessert: Lemonade Sorbet made from fresh-squeezed lemons topped with raspberries.
The seating begins at 11 a.m., and the last seating starts at 12:15 p.m., but customers are welcome to enjoy their meal up until 1:30 p.m. Each meal costs $15 per person, or four meals for $50 with a purchased punch card. Payments can be made in the form of cash or check at the host stand on the day of the meal. Seating is limited; reservations will be preferred.
The class is instructed by Sherri Nordstrom Stastny, professor in health nutrition and exercise sciences.
Additional restaurant dates, names of student managers, weekly changing menus and reservation information regarding the 800 Café can be found online.
When making reservations, please include the number of guests, preferred seating time and any food allergies. Parking is available in the visitor's pay lot on the south side of the Memorial Union of Campus.
