Dean of NDSU Libraries named

Jolie Graybill, assistant director for digital initiatives and metadata education, Minitex, University of Minnesota Libraries, Minneapolis, has been selected as the new dean of NDSU Libraries effective June 1. Provost Margaret Fitzgerald made the announcement April 14.

“Please welcome our exemplary new colleague, Dr. Graybill, to our NDSU community. I also want to acknowledge Hallie Pritchett’s work as the interim dean of libraries. Hallie has provided steady leadership in guiding the Libraries since 2021. Her guidance and knowledge of the libraries have been greatly appreciated by her colleagues,” Fitzgerald said. “Also join me in thanking the Search Committee, led by Dr. David Buchanan, associate dean of the College of Agriculture, Food Systems and Natural Resources. The search committee worked intensively to review and interview many accomplished candidates. We are grateful for the crucial role committee members played in finding our talented new dean.”

Graybill’s educational background includes a doctorate in managerial leadership in the information professions from Simmons University, and two master’s degrees: one from the University of Arizona’s School of Information Resources and Library Sciences, an ALA accredited program; and one from the University of Minnesota in education. She obtained tenure and promotion while at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries.

Graybill brings an array of academic leadership and experience to NDSU. Her work experience includes serving as associate professor, multicultural services librarian, and image and multimedia collections coordinator at the University of Nebraska; 4-H youth development agent at the University of Arizona, Maricopa County Cooperative Extension; and 4-H youth development Extension educator at the University of Minnesota, Extension Service, Ramsey County, Saint Paul, Minnesota.
