NDSU finished the season ranked No. 4 in the 2022 NWCA Scholar All-America team standings announced by the National Wrestling Coaches Association on April 29.
NDSU's 3.542 team grade-point average was fourth overall in NCAA Division I, behind only Long Island's 3.626, Hofstra’s 3.575 and Cleveland State’s 3.553. The Bison were the top Big 12 team recognized.
The Bison had six wrestlers honored as NWCA Scholar All-Americans. Junior 141-pounder Dylan Droegemueller, freshman 149 Gaven Sax, junior 157 Jared Franek, senior 165 Luke Weber, sophomore 174 Riley Habisch and senior 285 Brandon Metz were among the 289 individuals honored.
Franek and Metz, both three-time recipients of the award, were two of NDSU's five NCAA national championship qualifiers. Franek was the Big 12 runner-up at 157 pounds. Droegemueller, Sax, Weber and Habisch are all first-time recipients.
