Carrie Johnson has accepted the position of NDSU Extension assistant director, family and community wellness. She began her duties on June 1.

“I look forward to serving NDSU Extension as the family and community wellness assistant director,” Johnson said. “I am excited to work with professionals in family and community wellness who empower individuals, families and communities across North Dakota to make positive changes.”

During her interim assistant director role, Johnson traveled statewide to connect with multiple groups, identified new staff development opportunities, expanded the grant portfolio and collaborated on marketing materials. She also provided regular coaching and mentoring for non-tenure track Extension specialists completing their promotion packets, and managed staff professional development and new staff onboarding.

“Carrie’s experience, collaborations, innovation, commitment to evaluation, understanding of the position and passion for Extension will continue to serve our organization well,” said Lynette Flage, NDSU Extension associate director.

Johnson earned her doctorate in family and consumer science education from Iowa State University and brings more than 12 years of Extension experience as a county educator and family financial management specialist. She started her Extension career as a family and consumer science educator in 2009 with the South Dakota Cooperative Extension Service. In the role, she provided education on personal finances, food safety, nutrition, aging well, parenting and child development and also assisted with 4-H youth development. She transitioned to a family and resource management field specialist with the Mitchell Regional Center and then accepted a family resource management specialist position with SDSU Extension.

In 2016, she became the NDSU Extension personal and family finance specialist. Johnson also holds the rank of associate professor with tenure.
