Asthma, diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease and other topics were covered at the research symposium of the NDSU student chapter of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Sciences held Sept. 20 at NDSU.
The event provides discussion of research results by graduate students, postdocs, faculty and industry. They are collaborating to advance research leading to products and therapies to improve global health as part of NDSU’s mission as an R1 institution and research leader.
Poster presentation winners at the symposium include:
• First place – Niyati A. Borkar, “Kisspeptin Reduces Airway Hyperresponsiveness and Remodeling in Asthmatic Ovariectomized Mice,” advisor – Sathish Venkatachalem
• Second place – Riddhi Trivedi, “Synthesis and characterization of mannose and penetratin functionalized PLGA nanoparticles encapsulating Emtricitabine and Bictegravir for delivery across the blood brain barrier for the management of HIV associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND),” advisor – Jagdish Singh
• Third place – Allana Martins, “Structure-based virtual screening and molecular docking to identify novel RAGE inhibitors as potential drugs for Alzheimer disease therapy,” advisor – Roberto Gomes
The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the NDSU School of Pharmacy offers master’s and doctoral degree programs, emphasizing both research and teaching excellence. The department's research portfolio includes R01 grants from the National Institutes of Health, with research focused on the role of pharmaceutical sciences in disease prevention, disease treatment, and additional research to promote health.
