Connection Crew Position Description

Connection Crew play a significant role in helping students transition successfully to NDSU. Connection Crew help to prepare new students and ease uncertainty by facilitating connection-making, increasing awareness of campus resources, and planting realistic expectations for student life throughout the orientation experience. This work is accomplished through facilitating, dialoguing, and engaging incoming students and their guests during orientation days.

Connection Crew members contribute to the student transition experience with duties including, but not limited to:

Orientation, Tours, and Visit Days

  • facilitating peer connection-making
  • guiding students and guests on campus tours
  • engaging in conversations
  • answering questions and sharing their own NDSU experiences
  • fulfilling administrative responsibilities as assigned
  • providing hospitality to diverse groups of individuals

Training and experience in the following

  • strengthening communication skills and creating conversations that matter
  • developing personal and professional relationships in a team-based setting
  • working towards a common goal of being student-focused
  • enhancing hospitality skills while serving students and their guests
  • increasing confidence in the ability to facilitate large and small group experiences

Other Compensation

  • $15/hour with Orientation, $14/hour with Admissions
  • meals (light breakfast and lunch) provided on orientation days
  • lunch provided on Summer Visit Days
  • on-campus summer housing is provided free of charge (optional benefit)
  • additional summer hours may be possible

Connection Crew Qualifications

  • current undergraduate student at NDSU
  • be an enrolled undergraduate NDSU student for the Fall of 2026
  • maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • must be in good behavioral standing with the institution

From this point forward, you also must be in good standing with the University which includes no conduct violations resulting in anything more than a warning.

  • If you receive conduct probation, supervised conduct probation, suspension, or expulsion as the result of a Code of Conduct Violation, you must complete your sanctions and be in good standing with the University at the time that employment begins.
  • If you are not in good standing with the university, your offer of employment will be rescinded.

Application Process: Complete the online application (make sure you are logged into Google with your NDSU email). After a completed application is submitted, candidates may receive an invitation for an in-person, on-campus interview.

Through a partnership with the Office of Admissions, we’re hiring some hybrid positions that will serve on the staff for both Orientation and Admissions throughout the summer.

Connection Crew and Admissions Hybrid Positions

Hybrid positions will be guaranteed extra Admission work shifts outside of Orientation work, and throughout the summer. A full summer schedule will be agreed upon with the Office of Admission before the start of employment, with a level of flexibility in the schedule.
