Dr. Anna M. Strahm is an Assistant Scientist in the Behavioral Sciences Group at Sanford Research. She earned her Ph.D. in Health and Social Psychology from North Dakota State University, prior to completing postdoctoral training at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in behavioral medicine and psychoneuroimmunology. Her research examines the interplay between psychosocial stress and health, with a particular focus on psychophysiological and psychoneuroimmunological mechanisms during pregnancy, including associations with gestational diabetes mellitus, birth outcomes, and differences in health outcomes.

Areas of Study & Research

Dr. Strahm's current projects explore pregnancy psychophysiology, stress-related metabolic pathways, and environmental factors contributing to differences in perinatal health and infant development. Additionally, her lab collaborates on multi-site research projects designed to study type 1 diabetes during pregnancy as well as factors impacting intergenerational risk and timing of related autoimmunity onset in children. The overarching goal of her work is to conduct foundational human research that informs policies and clinical practices aimed at improving maternal and child health throughout the lifespan.
