Elizabeth C. Reilly

Elizabeth C. Reilly has led in higher education since 2001. She presently serves as Head and Professor of the School of Education at North Dakota State University, an R1 (highest research activity) land-grant institution. She previously served as Dean and Professor in the School of Education at California State University, Channel Islands and as Chair and Professor of Educational Leadership in the School of Education at Loyola Marymount University, among several academic appointments. Raised to stand against injustice wherever it appears, as a PK-12 classroom teacher and administrator in California, Dr. Reilly served in urban, suburban, and rural schools and school districts, seeking to provide high quality learning experiences that echoed her mother’s belief that “education gives you possibilities.”
American Educational Research Association’s Leadership for Social Justice SIG honored Dr. Reilly as its recipient of the LSJ Bridge People Award that recognizes people whose work “creates a bridge between themselves and others” through scholarship and research. Dr. Reilly is the former elected Chair of AERA’s International Studies Special Interest Group, who honored her with its Lifetime Achievement Award for global research and service. While at LMU, she was honored as one of its notable professors. With colleagues from across the United States, she works with the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate. With University Council for Educational Administration, she served as a Jackson Scholar Mentor, supporting doctoral students of color in the United States who aspire to the professoriate.
Areas of Study & Research
A recognized international scholar investigating women in educational leadership, with graduate students and fellow scholars, Dr. Reilly presents and researches globally. She works with leaders of multinationals, government, non-governmental organizations, and education on five continents, principally investigating women in educational leadership. Dr. Reilly has conducted investigations in numerous countries including Afghanistan, China, Costa Rica, India, Ireland, Mexico, Pakistan, Russia, Rwanda, and Singapore with the goal of sharing stories that should be told.
