Emily Zhan

Emily Zhan is an Assistant Professor of Communication at North Dakota State University. Drawing on communication, psychology, and behavioral science, her research examines how people perceive, evaluate, and interact with emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, and how these perceptions shape trust, human-AI relationships, and organizational outcomes. As a Challey Institute Faculty Fellow, she will extend this work to examine how individual perceptions of AI contribute to emerging social norms and, accordingly, form public preferences for AI policy and regulation. She also teaches COMM 467: User Experience in Artificial Intelligence, where students learn to critically evaluate and responsibly use AI to create meaningful organizational and social impact.
