Dr. Harun Pirim’s research sits at the intersection of network science, mathematical programming, and machine learning, with a strong focus on real-world challenges in biology, social systems, and decision-making. He applies tools like deep learning, graph theory, and discrete optimization to tackle problems ranging from identifying individuals with specific traits in social media networks, to predicting the functions of uncharacterized proteins, and analyzing multilayered power grid networks for resilience and reliability.
His contributions include numerous publications in respected journals and conferences, several book chapters, and the editing of two books in the field of data analytics. At North Dakota State University, he founded the CEL Lab—short for Connect, Elicit, Learn—a research hub dedicated to exploring the synergy between AI and complex systems.
Beyond his academic work, Dr. Pirim enjoys exploring topics in science, philosophy, and metaphysics.
