Kambiz Farahmand

Kambiz Farahmand, Ph.D., P.E. is a Professor and Chair of the Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering (IMSE) Department at North Dakota State University (NDSU), where he has served on the faculty since 2005 and previously held the role of Department Head. He is an internationally recognized expert in productivity improvement, systems engineering, and engineering data analysis. Dr. Farahmand has authored more than 110 refereed journal publications and over 40 technical papers, secured more than $6 million in externally funded research, and published two widely used textbooks, Workstation Design (3rd edition) and Evaluation of Engineering Data (2nd edition). He has extensive experience in academic leadership, curriculum development, ABET accreditation, and graduate education, and has played a key role in developing accelerated undergraduate and graduate engineering pathways.

Dr. Farahmand has over thirty-five years of industrial and consulting experience working with quality systems such as the Malcolm Baldrige Performance Excellence Framework and the Toyota Production System. His work has contributed to organizations such as Delphi Mexico, Delco Electronics, and TI Automotive achieving the Shingo Prize, and to Caterpillar and TI Instrument receiving Baldrige National Quality Awards. He has led and participated in joint research and consulting efforts with federal agencies and industry partners, including the U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, NASA, and the Veterans Health Administration. His most recent research areas include healthcare system redesign for VA involving Clinical Space Optimization, LEAN implementation and Reusable medical equipment reprocessing, portable life support systems for NASA astronauts’ space ensemble and adverse environment protecting garment, thermal and respiratory physiology, cooling systems, hypothermia, and respiratory heat and mass transfer for NAVY. He has also served as subject matter expert in Lean Manufacturing, Quality Control and ISO 9001, ISO 14001, AS9100, and OHSAS 18001implementation and certification of US Army command. He is a registered professional engineer in North Dakota.
