Lisa Montplaisir is a professor of biological sciences where her work bridges disciplinary science, teaching practice, and higher education leadership. Her career reflects a deep commitment to how science is taught and learned, particularly in post‑secondary classrooms, while advancing service and shared governance across the university and statewide higher education system.

Supported by the National Science Foundation, her scholarship has contributed to improved instructional strategies, curriculum design, and faculty development in STEM education. She is recognized for integrating research on learning with classroom practice, helping students build deep conceptual understanding while developing confidence as emerging scientists. Her teaching approach emphasizes transparency, active engagement, and standards‑based assessment, creating inclusive learning environments where students are challenged and supported. Students consistently commend her clarity, accessibility, and commitment to their growth as learners and professionals.

In addition to her teaching and research, Montplaisir plays a significant leadership role at NDSU and beyond. She served as president of the Faculty Senate and was a member of the president’s Cabinet, where she helped guide institutional priorities and decision‑making. She also represented faculty on the North Dakota State Board of Higher Education, contributing to statewide policy and governance conversations that shape the future of higher education.

Montplaisir’s service and leadership were recognized in 2025 when she received the prestigious Blue Key Doctor of Service Award, one of the highest honors bestowed by the Blue Key Honor Society. The award acknowledges her exceptional dedication to students, faculty, and the broader academic community, as well as her ability to amplify student voices and lead with integrity and purpose.
