Areas of Study & Research
Maxwell Sabin is a Master of Science student in History with an emphasis on Public History. His primary area of study is military history, specifically post-World War II Cold War Aviation.
After graduating from North Dakota State University in 2020 with degrees in English & Public History, Maxwell was hired at the Fargo Air Museum. Since becoming the full-time Collection's Manager in 2021, the Fargo Air Museum has accepted more than 300 new donations, ranging from individual medals to full-size military aircraft. Additionally, Maxwell has spearheaded the creation of more than 10 rotating exhibits. Maxwell also founded Veterans' Story Preservation Day, which is a full day of conducting interviews with area veterans at the Fargo Air Museum or the veterans' home/care facility. To date, more than 15 of these interviews have been done. Maxwell was also instrumental in forming a partnership between the North Dakota State University Archives and the Fargo Air Museum, which has seen the museum's paper documents become accessible to researchers and enthusiasts around the globe.
In 2023, Maxwell co-authored "Images of Aviation: North Dakota Air National Guard", published by Arcadia Publishing. This book showcases the history of the North Dakota Air National Guard from its establishment in the Second World War, its role as a Fighter-Interceptor Squadron during the Cold War, and its current role as a Remotely Piloted Aircraft unit today.
In his free time, Maxwell enjoys traveling with his significant other (and sometimes their cats) to various air museums and veteran memorials around the country, documenting the histories and locations of retired military equipment. He is an administrator for the website Aerial Visuals, which documents the histories of military aircraft on display around the globe. He enjoys creative writing as well, and much of his work can be found on Instagram under the username(s) fovmodels & shotsfromsabin.
