Dr. Robert Hubbard joined the NDSU Theatre Arts faculty as Department Head and professor in January 2026. Before starting at NDSU, Hubbard served as Chair of Theatre at Northwestern College.

A past recipient of the O’Neill Critics Fellowship, Hubbard regularly publishes articles and reviews in popular and academic publications such as HowlRound, Theatre Journal, Shakespeare Bulletin, and Reformed Journal. In 2015, Minot State University, Hubbard’s undergraduate alma mater, inducted him into its Academic Hall of Fame. In 2023, Eerdmans Publishing Company released Hubbard’s book, Scenes with My Son: Love and Grief in the Wake of Suicide.

Theatre Directing experiences include productions of Hamlet, Life is a Dream, The Cherry Orchard, Macbeth, Love’s Labour’s Lost, The Odyssey, a Grand Award-winning production of The Comedy of Errors, and The Cradle Will Rock for which Hubbard received a certificate of merit in directing from the American College Theatre Festival. Also from the American College Theatre Festival, his production of Life is a Dream was selected as an invited production in 2023 for Festival 55 in Des Moines, Iowa. A veteran solo performer, Hubbard regularly performs his original solo shows at fringe festivals and colleges across the country.
