Scholarships

Scholarship applications for current and incoming students are accepted beginning December 1st to March 1st for the Department of Spanish and Global Studies.

To apply for general NDSU scholarships and scholarships selected by NDSU academic colleges and departments, complete the application in our Scholarship Portal.  You will login using the same credentials that you use for blackboard. 

All external scholarships will also be listed in the Scholarship Portal.  Login often to see if new opportunities have been added for you.

REMEMBER: Be sure to observe the criteria and deadline for each scholarship. It is the student's responsibility to submit the scholarship application and respond to all additional questions posed.

Current Opportunities

The Laurel Sparks Study Abroad Scholarship-- This scholarship will be given to an NDSU student majoring in Modern Languages who will study abroad for a minimum of fourteen consecutive weeks during the upcoming year.

Eligibility criteria: 1. Be properly enrolled at NDSU during the semester of actual disbursement of the scholarship, with a first or second major in Spanish or French; 2. Have a plan for academic study abroad approved by the department of Modern Languages; 3. Minimum cumulative GPA 3.0; 4. Will have completed SPAN/FREN 312 before going abroad; 5. Preference given to those with junior standing studying abroad for the first time.         

The Kathleen Aanerud Swanson Scholarship-- awarded to a female student of junior standing.

Eligibility criteria: 1. Be properly enrolled at North Dakota State University at the time of application and disbursement; 2. Be a female student majoring within the Department of Modern Languages at the time of application and disbursement; 3. Have achieved junior standing or higher at the time of disbursement; 4. Have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher.

The Madeline S. Gittings Scholarships-- These consist of two separate annual awards for students with a first or second major in Modern Languages. 

Eligibility criteria:1. Be properly enrolled at NDSU at the time of application and disbursement; 2. Be a full-time student in good standing who is majoring in Modern Languages; 3. Financial need shall be the primary criterion; 4. Secondary consideration given to academic performance.
