Welcome Week Schedule


August 24-30, 2019

Move-in for students living on-campus will be Saturday, August 24, and many events and opportunities will be available to students throughout the first week of the semester. Events considered essential to the learning of every new student will be required for first-year students. Required events begin late Saturday afternoon and conclude late Monday afternoon. A schedule by date is listed below. We look forward to welcoming you to the NDSU family!

Saturday, August 24

Residence Hall Move In
REQUIRED EVENT
8:00 am – 1:00 pm, Your Residence Hall
Welcome to your new home! You have the opportunity to create your experience. As you prepare for move-in day, please plan to be here early and get settled into your new home. There will be yellow signage around campus directing traffic to the residence halls. We ask all resident and families to follow the directions on our website as they will direct you to a drop off point close to your assigned residence hall (GPS is not suggested for move-in day drop off points). You may unload your items at these drop off points, and then receive directions from our move-in crew for parking.

NDSU Bookstore is Open
9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., Memorial Union
Pick up pre-ordered course materials and check out technology products.  Grab a snack and/or beauty products at the Herd Shop.

NDSU Bookstore Popup Shop is Open
10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., outside on west side of Residence Dining Center
Check out various products for sale.

Lunch Options
All dining centers will be open. Meal plans start at 10:30 a.m. for students with a 7-day meal plan. The cost is $8 per person for anyone not on a 7-day meal plan. Family and friends are welcome! In addition to the dining centers, the Memorial Union food court will have Twisted Taco and Pizza Express open (10:30-4:00).

New Student Finances Checklist
11:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 1:00 p.m. - Century Theater, Memorial Union
You have your class schedule and you've purchased books, but are your finances in order? Do you need a quick refresher on the financial aid and billing processes at NDSU? Spend 15 minutes reviewing the tasks required to successfully receive aid, enroll in the payment plan, avoid account holds, etc. Checklists and instructions will be provided!

Friends and Family FAQ Resource Fair
1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. - tables across from NDSU Bookstore, Memorial Union
Friends and family often have questions about the NDSU resources that foster learning within each of the Welcome Week pillars: Academic Integration, College Knowledge, Wellness, and NDSU Belong. Pick up helpful information about the wide variety of resources and speak to a Student Success Programs staff member with any additional questions.

Community Fair
2:00 pm - 4:00 pm, Great Plains Ballroom - Memorial Union
Students and family members are invited to meet Welcome Week sponsors and learn about the Fargo-Moorhead area. Celebrate having moved into the residence halls by enjoying refreshments, games, and have a chance to win NDSU Bison Pride door prizes.

Join nationally recognized speaker and entertainer, Jason LeVasseur, in learning about Bison traditions, making meaningful connections, and beginning a life-changing experience at NDSU.

Saturday Night Live

Memorial Union will have a huge variety of activities hosted by student groups and university departments.
There will be something for everyone! In addition to meeting others and enjoying the variety of activities, there will be snacks available and door prize drawings at many locations. Bring your NDSU ID. Details will be available on MyNDSU as we get nearer the date.

Various times and locations for each Welcome Week group between 2:30 p.m. - 4:45 p.m. Details will be available on MyNDSU as we get nearer the date. Students will gather with upper class students to discuss important topics and information that relate to being a successful student at NDSU.

Wellness Events

Wellness is an important piece of being a successful student. Drop by to learn about different facets of wellness - academic, emotional, financial, physical, spiritual. Events will be in different locations. Details will be available on MyNDSU as we get nearer the date.

Dinner
Various times and locations for each Welcome Week group between 5:00 p.m. - 7:15 p.m. Details will be available on MyNDSU as we get nearer the date. Students are encouraged to eat with an Affinity Group (see below). For students who choose NOT to join an Affinity Group for dinner, please eat at your groups assigned location as specified on MyNDSU . This is to accommodate the large number of people eating at the same time. We appreciate your cooperation. Those with a five-day meal plan or no plan are welcome but will need to pay the $10 meal cost.

Want to meet other students who share the same interests or background? Come share a meal with one of 16 groups! A full listing will be available on MyNDSU as we get nearer the date. New students without a 7-day meal plan are welcome and may stop by the Student Success Programs table at the entrance of each dining center to pick up a free meal ticket.

Outdoor Movie

Transitions is an event for new-to-NDSU students in one of our six primary majors. Students will learn more deeply about the majors, meet faculty and fellow students, get to know your advisors, get a good start on understanding academic requirements, and get the first opportunity to become involved in all the opportunities available to students in the College of Business.

College of Engineering

You'll hear from the college leadership team,including the Dean and Associate Dean, along with student leaders and a recent graduate out in the workforce. College of Health Professions

College of Human Sciences and Education

College of Science & Mathematics

The College program will be a presentation in Gate City Auditorium from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m
Students meeting with their department chair/head or other representative and a tour of their departments. In the College presentation the following topics will be covered: introduction of key college personnel, review of policies concerning grade appeals and academic misconduct, tips for success at NDSU, an explanation of how we employ active learning in some of our classes, and review anti-discrimination/Title IX policies.

The Part-Time Jobs Fair provides a great opportunity for students to explore potential part-time job opportunities, both on-campus and off-campus. Bridge Bash

Music, food, games, & fun! Hop on the Bridge Bash shuttle and join us Downtown on the Main Avenue bridge for a fun free event!
