Jay Debertin

Jay Debertin is president and chief executive officer of CHS, the nation’s leading farmer-owned cooperative and an agronomy, energy, global grains and processing company. In 2017, Debertin was named president and CEO following 33 years of leadership roles across the company. He has been with the cooperative since 1984. As president and CEO of CHS, Debertin drives the company’s strategies while growing its core businesses to provide end-to-end products and leverage the strength of the cooperative’s supply chain to support the nation’s farmers and cooperatives. Debertin previously held the positions of executive vice president and chief operating officer for CHS energy and processing and food ingredients.
Debertin serves as board chair for Ventura Foods, LLC, a joint venture of which CHS is part owner. He also sits on the boards of the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives, the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis and Securian Financial.

About the Event:

Students and industry leaders are invited to the 32nd Annual Al C. Bloomquist Lecture featuring CEO of CHS, Jay Debertin. The event begins with lunch at 11:30 a.m. on March 25th at Louise S. Barry Auditorium in Barry Hall.

This lectureship is designed to provide university students an opportunity to hear first-hand from distinguished individuals involved in cooperatives. Additionally, it allows for cooperative employees, directors and members to network with university students that will soon begin their careers.

American Crystal Sugar Co. is a cooperative owned by approximately 2,600 farmers, supplies 16% of the country’s sugar and employs 2,000 men and women in the states of Minnesota and North Dakota.

The Quentin N. Burdick Center for Cooperatives (QBCC) at North Dakota State University helps cooperative businesses reach their potential while being the region’s trusted source for education, outreach and research on cooperative businesses. The QBCC provides educational opportunities through university courses and executive education programs. Research activities focus on issues unique to cooperative businesses operating in the Northern Plains.
