Brandon Olson successfully defended his cereal science M.S. thesis on November 5, 2021. The title of his thesis is Evaluation of Extraction Methods and Groat Type with Effects on Quality Analysis of Oat Beverage. His advisor was Dr. Senay Simsek.

Olson chose North Dakota State University for his M.S. degree because he completed his undergraduate degree here and enjoyed working with staff and fellow students. He recommends NDSU and says learning time management skills and never being afraid of asking questions are important for graduate level studies.

While at NDSU, Olson participated in the Cereals and Grains Association, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, the NDSU Food Science Club and the Institute of Food Technologists Student Association serving as North Central Region Chair in 2020. He completed an internship as Plant Supervisor at Country Harvest Baking Company in Fargo, ND in 2019.

Olson plans to continue his studies and pursue a Ph.D. in cereal science or plant science at NDSU. He is from Anoka, MN.

Her graduate committee included Simsek, Dr. Anuradha Vegi, Dr. Jae Ohm and Dr. Julie Garden-Robinson.
