Why I chose NDSU

NDSU is one of the best schools for Agricultural Education in the Midwest, and NDSU has an awesome campus atmosphere that I have wanted to be a part of since I was a little kid.

Why I chose a major in the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources

I don’t come from a farming family; however, I am from a very rural small town in North Dakota where our survival is heavily reliant on agriculture. My dad also works for a farmer and my mom worked for our local elevator. When I was a kid, I loved harvest season with my dad and getting to be a part of farm life. As I grew up, I found a love for agriculture and FFA, which mixed with my love for education and led me to Agricultural Education!

Scholarships help provide the opportunity to attend college

I have received the NDSU Opportunity Scholarship for the last two years. Scholarships are super important to me, especially being a first-generation college student. I think that scholarships can be so important to students who wouldn't otherwise have the opportunity to get a college education.

Club involvement leads to valuable experiences and friendships

Being a part of the NDSU Saddle and Sirloin Club for the past two years has been my favorite college experience so far. I had the opportunity to show at Little I (International) last year and am going to show again this year. Going into my first experience working with cattle, I was super nervous but I could not have asked for more support from the other showmen I worked with. We were supposed to be competitors but we ended up being really good friends. I am now on the executive team of Saddle and Sirloin and I can't wait to see where else this club will take me! Clubs at NDSU give you a level of comradery that I feel is often lost in today's day and age. Just having a shared interest with someone can give you a sense of connection to campus life.

My greatest NDSU memory

The greatest memory I have at NDSU is the first time I walked into the [wood] chips [in the show ring] at Little International. My dairy heifer was cooperating, which was a long way from where she had started. I had worked for over a month and a half to get to that moment and it was just so incredible to see this moment I had worked so hard for.

My future plans

After I complete my degree at NDSU, I plan to teach agriculture somewhere in North Dakota or Minnesota and be an FFA advisor. One of my dreams is to charter an FFA chapter in a school that doesn't have one. I would like to get my masters sometime in the future as well!
