Gain hands-on experience, build professional connections and apply what you learn in the classroom through an internship in emergency management or business continuity.

All Disaster Resilience and Emergency Management (DREM) majors are required to complete one or more internships as part of their degree. Internships are designed to connect your academic experience with your interests, career goals and professional pathway.

Students and sponsoring organizations determine the specific number of hours beyond the minimum requirement and the scope of the internship experience. Students are encouraged to spend as much time as possible learning from professionals, participating in projects and gaining meaningful experience.

Students are responsible for working with the DREM program to identify and secure an internship opportunity that fits their interests and career goals. Because internship experiences are flexible, students my complete internships with a wide range of organizations and across different areas of emergency management and business continuity.

The student must complete the Internship Intent Application form and submit it to the DREM program for approval. All placements must be approved by the DREM program before a student can receive internship credit.

The DREM program will send the sponsoring organization a confirmation email before the internship begins. Organizations are encouraged to contact the program representative at any point before, during or after the internship with questions, concerns or other matters related to the experience.

At the conclusion of the internship, the sponsoring organization's supervisor will receive an evaluation form from the DREM program. The intern also completes an evaluation of their experience.

The sponsoring organizations evaluation is discussed with the student during a post-internship meeting with their DREM program representative.
