The faculty in the NDSU CEE Department will serve as mentors to the teachers during the summer research experience. The department is home to six NSF CAREER awardees. The faculty are active researchers with 35 active awards and 58 active projects totaling nearly $1.3 million during the 2019 fiscal year (July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019). Funding was awarded from the National Science Foundation, the Minnesota Department of Transportation, U.S. Geological Survey, U.S. Department of Transportation, Iowa Department of Transportation, State of Michigan, among others. In 2018, the faculty published over 85 papers, many of which were co-authored by their students.

Representatives from these firms and agencies (herein referred to as the industry representatives) will (a) facilitate field trips for the teachers, graduate students and interested faculty mentors, (b) attend and provide input during workshops held with the teachers, and (c) participate in the Summer Capstone.
