The NDSU College of Engineering hosted its 8th annual Scholarship and Awards Reception on October 30 in the Memorial Union’s Oċet̄i Ṡak̄owiɳ Ballroom. The event brought together students, donors, faculty, and staff to celebrate the generosity, hard work, and dedication that fuel success across the college.

At the heart of NDSU’s land-grant mission is a commitment to ensuring that a world-class education remains accessible and affordable. Through a wide range of need-based and merit-based awards, the College of Engineering helps students pursue their goals and prepare to make an impact in their fields and communities.

Thanks to the generosity of alumni, friends, and industry partners, the College of Engineering awarded more than $3 million in scholarships in 2025. These gifts not only help offset the cost of tuition but also give students the freedom to focus more deeply on their studies, research, and professional development during their time at NDSU.

“I never would have imagined when I first came here to NDSU that I would be given the chance to speak on behalf of so many amazing students whose lives, like mine, have been changed by the generosity of those of you sitting here today,” said Ella Mork, an industrial engineering and management major and scholarship recipient from Norwood Young America, MN. “The support from scholarships has made a world of difference, and given me the freedom to truly learn and explore new areas within engineering, and to grow both inside and outside the classroom.”

Scholarships are awarded to incoming and current students. The winners are selected by the office of admissions and college or department scholarship committees based on criteria established by donors for each scholarship.

“NDSU shaped my life, not just my career, but who I am,” said scholarship donor Brent Christian, ’84 BS Civil Engineering. “To the students here, you are the future of this profession. Take advantage of every opportunity NDSU offers. Work hard, stay curious, take risks, and don’t be afraid to fail forward. The foundation you’re building here will carry you further than you can imagine.”

In the NDSU College of Engineering, students do more than just study theory, they apply it. Through hands-on learning, collaborative research and industry partnerships they are prepared to solve real-world challenges and make lives better in North Dakota and around the world.

“Earning a degree from the College of Engineering takes a lot of hard work and dedication, and with that comes a lot of well-earned pride,” said Alan Kallmeyer, dean of the College of Engineering. “Thank you alumni and donors, for enabling these students to chase their dreams by providing generous financial support.”
