Perfect for students with basic horsemanship skills who want to deepen their understanding of partnering horses and humans to improve health and well-being. With coursework in equine management, human psychology and development, as well as the intersection of these fields, this 19-credit experiential learning program prepares you for impactful careers in therapeutic riding, human development and equine studies. Gain hands-on experience and master the skills needed to pursue your certification as a certified therapeutic riding instructor or equine specialist. Comprehensive Curriculum
This experiential learning program provides a well-rounded education by focusing on concepts and theories in the field, equine management, human development, precautions and contraindications of disabilities, as well as application of the skills needed to become a therapeutic riding instructor or equine specialist.
Professional Development and Leadership
Broaden your horizons and expand your experience outside of the classroom through student organizations, including the NDSU Horsemen’s Association, which provides a variety of equine-related outreach activities, and the NDSU Rodeo Club, which provides students the opportunity to gain experience and knowledge of the sport of rodeo. Participation in these organizations help build strong connections with peers and industry leaders while building on skills learned in class.
Work in the Best Environment
NDSU’s Equine Center, located four miles west of the main campus, houses indoor horse stalls, an indoor riding arena and outdoor turnout space. The Center is a tremendous asset to NDSU students who enjoy horses for recreation, sport or hobby.
