I study how climate and land use changes influence aquatic communities in wetland and stream ecosystems. One of the main goals of my research is to help natural resource managers and policy makers understand the mechanisms that promote aquatic biodiversity in the Northern Great Plains and to provide actionable science that can help prevent or slow biodiversity loss. A critical part of this research is leading a long-term wetland monitoring study that has accumulated wetland hydrology, plant, aquatic invertebrate, amphibian, and bird data for over 30 years.
