ACE Tutoring Employment Description

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only NDSU undergraduate students are eligible to be hired in this position. Unsolicited applications to this posting will NOT be considered.

Description, Duties & Responsibilities:
Peer tutors at ACE help facilitate learning outside of the classroom for other current NDSU students. Tutors review course concepts and questions and help students gain good study and academic success habits. Tutoring occurs in several formats including individual 1:1 appointments and drop-in tutoring times. Tutors show enthusiasm for learning and the course material. Tutors also demonstrate person-centered skills delivered in a calm and organized manner, with a focus on building confidence and easing the stress of the students working with them.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current undergraduate students who have completed at least one semester at NDSU
  • At least a 3.0 cumulative GPA at hiring and throughout employment
  • Final grade of an A or B in any class the applicant wants to tutor or significant evidence the student will be a successful tutor in a specific content area
  • Positive recommendation from past professors in the content area the applicants would tutor (ACE supervisor will follow up with professors after interview)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work comfortably with students from diverse backgrounds
  • Attention to detail and organization
  • Ability to work one evening/night shift during the fall semester

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as a tutor
  • Students who have taken, and can tutor, one or more of the classes in our highest need areas: CHEM 117, 121, 122, 341, 342; MATH 98, 103, 105, 165, 166, 266; ME 221, 222, 223; ACCT 201, 202; BIOL 220, 221; STAT 330, 331; CSCI 160, 161
  • Knowledge about other academic support programs on the NDSU campus

Work Location:

ACE Tutoring is located in the lower level of the West Dining Center.

Compensation:

The hourly wage starts at $14.00 with semester raises based on performance

Terms of Employment:

Tutors will begin employment at the start of the fall 2026 semester. Training will occur during the first week of fall semester classes.
