Guaranteed Scholarships

First-year and transfer students who are admitted, meet the academic criteria and transcript deadlines are guaranteed a scholarship at NDSU.

3.0-3.64 GPA$1,000/year (maximum of four years)
Note: If you receive a renewable scholarship that is higher than your guaranteed minimum award, you will receive the higher amount only. The awards are not cumulative.
Transfer students with at least 12 transferable credits completed, who are admitted to NDSU by August 1 (for fall semester) or December 1 (for spring semester), who are working towards their first bachelor's degree, are guaranteed a minimum scholarship based on the criteria below.

3.5-4.0 GPA$2,000 (renewable for one additional year)
3.0-3.49 GPA$1,000 (renewable for one additional year)
Note: Students transferring to NDSU after attending another college or university for one semester or less may be considered for First-Year Guaranteed Scholarships.
The Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship is available to incoming transfer students who are members of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK). To be eligible for this award students must complete the general scholarship application and upload their PTK membership certificate.
Note: If you receive a renewable scholarship exceeding the guaranteed minimum amount, the higher award will replace the lower one (not be added to it).

First-Year Scholarship Timeline

First Round

  • December 1: Submission deadline for scholarship consideration
  • By December 31: Scholarship offers released
  • January 31: Deadline to accept scholarship offers - students who do not accept their offers by this date may lose their awards.

Accepting scholarship offers before May 1 does not commit you to attend NDSU.

Second Round

  • February 1: Submission deadline for scholarship consideration
  • By February 28: Scholarship offers released
  • May 1: Deadline to accept scholarship offers - students who do not accept their offers by this date may lose their awards.

Students who submit the scholarship application by December 1 do NOT need to reapply to be considered in the second round.

Third Round

Applications received after February 1 will continue to be reviewed and students will be awarded as funds remain available.

  • May 1: Deadline to accept scholarship offers - students who do not accept their offers by this date may lose their awards.

Students admitted after May 1 may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Deadline to confirm plans to attend NDSU to keep scholarship offers - students who do not confirm by this deadline may lose their awards

July 1

Deadline for NDSU to receive official final high school transcripts and test scores (if applicable) for guaranteed scholarship confirmation

Scholarship Examples

National Merit Finalist

Amount: $20,000 over four years ($5,000/year for maximum of 4 years)
Criteria: Awarded to National Merit Semi-Finalists who reach Finalist status and notify National Merit Scholarship Corporation of NDSU as their final choice.

Harry D. McGovern Scholarship

Amount: Up to full-time undergraduate base tuition
Criteria: Awarded to high achieving students with declared STEM (science, technology, engineering or math) – related field
