College-wide Scholarship Opportunities

Ann and Tom Riley Scholarship: Students must have a declared major within the College of Arts & Sciences and a GPA of 3.0 or above.

Scholarship for Diversity: Must have a declared major in the College of Arts & Sciences. Must demonstrate financial need, as determined by the University Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, with preference given to those students who qualify for a Federal Pell Grant. Must maintain a GPA of 2.75 on a scale of 4.0. Preference for students from under-served ethnic populations as determined by the University. Eligible for students applying for citizenship or eligible noncitizens if they meet the above criteria.

Byron L. Berntson (Class of 61) Memorial Scholarship: Available to students pursuing a major in one of the following fields of study: English, a foreign language, history, political science, music, speech, or art, who have maintained a minimum 3.6 GPA. Students must have contributed to life in the NDSU community through membership in a service fraternity or society, student government, musical or dramatic arts groups, or the staff of a student publication. Overall criterion includes the student's contribution to the spirit, life, prestige, and academic excellence of the NDSU community.

College of Arts and Sciences Student Ambassador Scholarship: Awarded to a junior or a senior enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences with a minimum GPA of 3.0. May not be a current member of the College of Arts and Sciences Student Ambassador group. An essay on how you would enhance the college and a written recommendation from a current faculty or staff member of the College of Arts and Sciences is required.

Denise and Jon Beusen Endowed Scholarship: Given to a student enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences. Selection is based on GPA and financial need.

Delsie Holmquist Memorial Scholarship: Scholarships awarded to students majoring in the College of Arts & Sciences with high academic achievement (minimum cumulative GPA of 3.60). Must be properly enrolled as a freshman, sophomore, or junior student at the time of application. At least two awards will be given to students enrolled in the NDSU Honors Program.

Donald Busek Scholarship Endowment Fund: Given to a student enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences in their junior or senior year. Preference is given to students from Ward County in North Dakota.

Fred A. Bristol, Jr. Scholarship: This endowment provides scholarship funding for students enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences. Selection is based on GPA and satisfactory progress toward graduation.

Graduate School Research Award: A $1,000 award given in recognition of outstanding contributions made to research by a graduate student in the college.

Graduate School Teaching Award: A $1,000 award given to recognize outstanding contributions made to teaching by a graduate student in the college who performs significant classroom or laboratory teaching responsibilities.

Hinsz Science and Mathematics Education Scholarship: Given to an undergraduate intending to pursue a Grade 7-12 mathematics teaching career in North Dakota.

Jack and Jan Fuller Scholarship: This endowment provides scholarship funding for students enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences. Selection is based on GPA and attaining the academic rank of junior at the time of disbursement.

Kenneth Hoefs Scholarship Fund: Given to undergraduate students majoring in the College of Arts and Sciences. Recipients must be residents of North Dakota, with preference given to candidates from Hankinson, North Dakota. Students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Lois E. and John T. Schneider Peace Memorial Scholarship: Available to students enrolled in the College of Arts & Sciences. Students must be a junior or senior at the time of award disbursement with a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher. Preference will be given to applicants who meet one or more of the following criteria: career interest of serving in the U.S. Peace Corps after graduation, contributor to or staff of the Spectrum, student senator, employed part-time worker with a full-time academic schedule, or current or past member of the NDSU Student Organization - the Young Democrats.

Lucille McMahon Heggeness Memorial Scholarship: Given to a student entering their sophomore year with a minimum GPA of 3.6.

McCarthy Science Teacher Education Scholarship: Scholarships for students planning teaching careers and who are enrolled in physical science or earth science departments of the college.

NDSU Development Foundation Dr. Robert and Mary Ann Tucker Presidential Research Fellowship Endowment Fund: Given to graduate students enrolled at NDSU entering the second fund year of the graduate program in the Department of Chemistry or subsequent years pending satisfactory progress in coursework. Students must maintain a GPA of 3.25 and have an interest in conducting materials chemistry research.

President Chapman and First Lady Gale Willner Chapman Scholarship: Awarded to a student enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences at the junior or senior standing and must be a full-time student.

Promising Undergraduate Research Scholarship (PURS): Awarded to a full-time undergraduate student majoring in the College of Arts and Sciences at NDSU. The student must be participating in NDSU faculty-guided research activity at the time of disbursement. First preference will be given to a first-generation college student. The student must demonstrate financial need established by the office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.

Ralph L. Pitman Memorial Award: A fund provided for the benefit of the College of Arts and Sciences. This fund is used to honor the graduating senior student with the highest GPA and most credit hours taken at NDSU.

Rachel K. Roen Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund: Given to a student who is a resident of North Dakota and entering a field of science and mathematics.

Randy L. Gegelman Memorial Scholarship: Provides funding for students enrolled in the Arts and Sciences with a grade point average of 3.5 or above.

Steinhaus-Rhinehart Scholarship: This endowment provides scholarship assistance to students entering their senior year in the Colleges of Arts and Sciences or Agriculture, majoring in a biological science (animal and range science, biochemistry, biological sciences, biotechnology, botany, crop and weed sciences, horticulture, microbiology, or zoology), and who plan to do research and attend graduate school in the area of biological science. This endowment was established by Mrs. Mabry C. Steinhaus in honor of her husband, Edward A. Steinhaus, and his parents, Alice Rhinehart, and Arthur A. Steinhaus.

Timothy J. and Rosalinda Kloberdanz Cultural Heritage Scholarship: Recipients shall have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and demonstrate financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships and must have a declared major in the College of Arts and Sciences. Preference given to applicants who show evidence of completed coursework or research experience in Folklore, Cultural Anthropology, Indigenous Tribal Studies, Sociology, Cross-Cultural Communication, Modern Languages, or other subject areas relating to cultural/ethnic heritage. Preference is also given to applicants who demonstrate aptitude in their academic discipline that include, but are not limited to, written research, published works, public presentations, an/or participation in filed schools or student internships. Applicants must submit a one-page double spaced essay justifying why they should receive this scholarship.

William McMahon Memorial Scholarship: Given to a student entering their sophomore year with a minimum GPA of 3.6.
