Fargo, N.D., April 3 — NDSU will host the Capitalism and Society lecture, “The Future of Food,” on Monday, April 15 at 5:30 p.m. in the Richard H. Barry Hall auditorium.

Presented by Jayson Lusk, distinguished professor and head of the Agricultural Economics department at Purdue University, the lecture will focus on how innovation, entrepreneurship and science are creating an optimistic future for food.

The event is free and open to the public. After the lecture, there will be a short Q&A session followed by pizza and refreshments.

Lusk is a food and agricultural economist who studies what we eat and why we eat it. His research topics include the economics of animal welfare, consumer preferences for genetically modified food and the impacts of new technologies and policies on livestock and meat markets. He is the author of two books, The Food Police: A Well-Fed Manifesto about the Politics of Your Plate and Unnaturally Delicious: How Science and Technology are Serving Up Super Foods to Save the World.

“Dr. Lusk is widely recognized as an expert on food policy and consumer preferences,” said Jeremy Jackson, director of the Center for the Study of Public Choice and Private Enterprise. “I’m looking forward to hearing his perspective on how innovation and entrepreneurship are changing the future of agriculture – an important topic for our students and the region.”

The Capitalism and Society Lecture Series is hosted by the NDSU Center for the Study of Public Choice and Private Enterprise. The series invites dialogue between researchers, students and community members about institutions and policies that encourage and enhance human well-being.
