Research Facilities

The department is fully equipped with modern state of the art instrumentation for 21st century research in chemistry and biochemistry. Please select a link below for details on instrumentation and capabilities available for researchers.

NMR Spectroscopy Lab

The Department of Chemistry completed houses a million dollar NMR spectroscopy laboratory that includes three high field instruments.

500 MHz Varian Inova with triple axis gradients400 MHz Bruker Avance III HD

All instruments have variable temperature capabilities and employ the latest processing software.

The NMR Spectroscopy Lab is the central component of the Organic Spectroscopy Laboratory (OSL), which also includes a Bruker LC-MS and FT-IR instruments.

Core Biology Facility

The Center for Protease Research Core Biology Facility (CBF) was created in 2003 to aid in the in vitro testing of inhibitors of matrix metalloproteases and histone deacetylases. Since its inception, CBF has served as a biomedical research center for a wide variety of research projects on NDSU campus and throughout the region, and become a hub for connecting scientists for collaboration.

X-Ray Crystallography Facility

The X-Ray Crystallography Facility is equipped with a Kappa Apex II Duo X-Ray Diffractometer and Philips X’pert MPD X-ray Powder Diffractometer with Thin Film Diffraction capabilities.

The XCF provides services for the needs of research groups within the university. The facility also provides services for those outside NDSU.

Core Mass Spectrometry Facility

The Core Mass Spectrometry Facility is equipped with a GC-Mass Spectrometer and a Waters Synapt G2-Si high resolution Mass Spectrometer.

The CMS provides services for the needs of research groups within the university. The facility also provides services for those outside NDSU.

Core Synthesis Facility

The Core Synthesis & Analytical Services Facility (CSASF) was established in April 2008 to assist with principal investigators’ research by providing synthetic and analytical services. We are equipped with state-of-art instrumentation and can carry out all modern synthetic techniques. We specialize in the synthesis of small molecules for biological applications. We also offer quantitative and qualitative analyses of substrates using HPLC, LC-MS, and GC-MS.

Research Centers

Several research centers associated within the department and the university provide additional services and research capabilities.
