Hazardous Waste Definition (NDSU ChemPlan): "These are by-products, residues, spent substances, or other accumulations of altered, outdated, or unwanted substances that are hazardous. These substances exhibit properties of ignitability, corrosivity, reactivity, or toxicity and are more completely defined in Appendix 3. Hazardous Waste: By-products of society that can pose a substantial or potential hazard to human health or the environment when improperly managed, possess at least one of four characteristics (ignitability, corrosivity, reactivity, or toxicity), or appear on special EPA lists. EPA simply defines hazardous waste as having properties that make it dangerous or capable of having harmful effects on human health or the environment."
