NDSU connection: Ongoing mentorship and collaboration with faculty and students
North Dakota native Stefnee Trzpuc discovered her passion for healthcare interiors while interning at BWBR as an NDSU student. After graduating in 2002, she joined the firm full time and contributed to healthcare, workplace and science/technology projects across the Upper Midwest.
She later became a Certified Interior Designer and earned LEED AP and EDAC credentials. Exposure to emerging design methods sparked her interest in evidence-based practice, leading her to pursue a master’s degree in design at the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities. At the same time, she built BWBR’s research and knowledge management program, embedding research into everyday practice.
Promoted to firm leadership in 2018, Stefnee now serves as a principal and Director of Operations. She leads practice-based research initiatives that strengthen design solutions and promote knowledge sharing. Her work has appeared in Health Environments Research and Design Journal, and she presents nationally on design research and knowledge architecture.
Guided by her philosophy to “fail often, fail forward,” Stefnee champions experimentation, improvement, and innovation. Her work extends beyond design into business intelligence, technology, and organizational effectiveness. Learn more about Stefnee
