Join the Experimental Cognition and Language Lab

The Experimental Cognition and Language (ExCL) Lab in the Department of Psychology is recruiting a PhD student for Fall 2027. The ideal applicant will have a background in linguistics, psycholinguistics, or communication sciences and disorders. Prior experience with experimental research is preferred. The PhD student will be instrumental in developing the trajectory of the lab and will have the opportunity to initiate stable lines of community- and lab-based research. Funding is through a combination of startup funds and teaching assistantships.

The Department

The Department of Psychology has twelve full-time faculty, one Professor of Practice, eighteen graduate students, and over 400 undergraduate majors. The Department of Psychology offers world-class research and training in health, developmental, social, and cognitive psychology. The Department also houses the Center for Visual and Cognitive Neuroscience (CVCN) which was established by a NIH Center for Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) grant. The CVCN includes shared facilities for EEG, TMS, state-of-the-art VR, a driving simulator, eye-tracking, and fNIRS. Collaborative research partnerships have been established across the University and with local major medical centers including Sanford Research and the NIH-funded Sanford Center for Biobehavioral Mechanisms of Eating Behavior COBRE. All faculty members supervise graduate and undergraduate research and direct graduate and undergraduate theses.
