How did a lighthearted excursion end in disaster?

Located on the first floor of the Memorial Union.

On May 9th, 1969, over 1,000 students from NDSU, UND and schools as far as Florida and California, descended upon Zap, North Dakota, for an end of the year party. By dawn, National Guardsmen armed with fixed bayonets had forced out the cold, tired and intoxicated crowd.
