A recreationalist's dream

The forest contains 18 miles of multi-use, non-motorized trails and 10 miles of ATV Trails. This forested region features a mix of deciduous trees like oak, aspen, and birch that create stunning colors, especially during the fall season. Its varied terrain includes quiet lakes and wetlands that support an abundance of wildlife, making it a favorite spot for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts.

Hahn's Bay Recreation Area

Hahn's Bay recreation area offers day use, primitive camping, boat ramp access to Lake Metigoshe, fishing pier, toilets, and a picnic shelter. There is no reserving of campsites and all are on a first come basis.

Strawberry Lake

Strawberry Lake Recreation Area and campground has a self-registration system, campsites, two wells for drinking water, boat ramp, fishing pier, group camping area, picnic area and vault toilet facilities. Strawberry Lake is stocked with rainbow trout annually. Gas-powered boat motors are prohibited on the lake. The recreation area offers trail access to 18 miles of multi-use, non-motorized trails.

Twisted Oaks

Our only designated equestrian campground is the perfect spot to camp alongside your horses and explore the nearby trails. Amenities include corrals, a water tank for horses, a well for drinking water, campsites, fire rings, vault toilets, a self-registration system and trail access.

Mystical Horizons

This scenic overlook offers expansive views of surrounding prairie. Mystic Horizons features a sundial structures to view the spring and fall equinox, summer and winter solstices, and the north star through a sighting tube. This site is managed by Bottineau County.

Dalen Campsite

This unimproved area is where trail users can access the trail system or simply use it as a rest stop. No services available; however, the site has an outhouse, fire ring and warming shelter. People using this area should pack out what they pack in.
