Admission Options to PharmD Program

Admission to a pharmacy program is competitive and requires students to demonstrate strong academic performance, communication skills, and a commitment to patient care. The Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program requires applicants to complete prerequisite coursework in subjects such as biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, and mathematics before applying. An admission committee evaluates applicants holistically to determine whether they possess the academic preparation and professional qualities needed for success in pharmacy education and practice. Applicants are required to participate in interviews designed to assess communication abilities, ethical reasoning, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

Pharmacy program admissions focus on selecting students who are prepared to contribute to the evolving healthcare environment. Modern pharmacists play a critical role in medication management, patient counseling, immunizations, and collaborative healthcare teams. Students interested in pharmacy are encouraged to research individual program requirements carefully, maintain strong academic records, and gain meaningful healthcare exposure to strengthen their applications and prepare for the demands of professional pharmacy education.

Early Assurance Pathway uses standardized exam scores such as ACT or SAT as primary selection criterion. Your high school GPA is used as a secondary criterion for acceptance into EAP. Take your ACT or SAT tests as a sophomore, junior or senior. Other standardized test scores may be used. Contact Jamie.L.Berg@ndsu.edu to discuss acceptable test substitutions if needed.

Examples include (but are not limited to) the PSAT exam, the Pre-ACT Exam, the PARCC Assessment, the Smarter Balanced Assessment, the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment, or the North Dakota State Assessment, among others.
