NDSU CARES (Campus Awareness, Referral and Education for Suicide Prevention)

This session equips faculty and staff with NDSU CARES training to recognize student distress, respond effectively, and refer to support—while introducing the Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS), a brief, evidence-based tool for assessing suicide risk.

Mental Health First Aid Training

MHFA teaches you how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders. This training gives you the skills that you need to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care.

The Resilient Mind: Strengthening Self-care & Preventing Suicide by Prairie St. John's

Fostering a resilient mind takes effort through a variety of strategies and techniques. This training will focus on how to strengthen self-care practices and prevent suicide.

This workshop is designed to explore how creativity can help us feel more connected to ourselves and others. No need to be an artist—it's all about fun, exploration, and personal expression! Participants will engage in an abstract art activity, communicate through color, practice mindfulness through expression of color and learn how creativity makes connections.

Green Bandana Project Training

The Green Bandana Project creates a visual system around campus for anyone struggling with anxiety or depression. The bandanas are attached to student’s backpacks when they have pledged to be a safe individual to approach with mental health-related issues and that they can provide resources. The green bandana is a sign of quiet solidarity. Attend the training and learn more on how you can support the community. More information on the Green Bandana Project can be found here.

The Out of Darkness Walk is a journey or remembrance, hope, and support. It unites our communities and provides an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental health conditions have affected our lives and the lives of those we love and care about.

Counseling Center NDSU Care Team Student Health Service 988 Lifeline

"You never know when somebody might need somebody willing to listen. Never be afraid to reach out for help when you need it, even if it seems like it's a hard thing to do, there is always somebody who is willing to listen," Addi Drenk, NDSU 2024 Residence Hall Association president, said.

Visit the NDSU Josh's Bench located on the East Patio of the Memorial Union. This bench serves as a physical reminder to the NDSU community that they are supported through their struggles. This bench, with the 988 crisis lifeline written on it, has the message “There is hope, even when you think there isn’t.”
