Becoming a VALOR Ally
All faculty and staff are encouraged to become a VALOR Ally.
To become a VALOR Ally, we ask you to commit to do the following:
- Complete (at a minimum) PsychArmor Course 15 Things Veterans Want You to Know;
- Review the Resources for Military and Veteran Students;
- Review the Military Culture Awareness Training Resources;
- Be listed on VALOR's webpage as an Ally and prominently display the VALOR decal in your work space;
- Create an environment that welcomes student veterans and invites them to talk openly;
- Treat student veterans with respect and dignity;
- Assist and advocate for student veterans as is appropriate within NDSU policy and the Student Code of Conduct;
- Encourage student veterans who have experienced or witnessed acts of bias, bigotry, or hate on the NDSU campus to report those experiences so they can be addressed;
- Continue to learn about issues relevant to the military and student veterans.

VALOR Ally of the Year (2021)
NDSU's assistant director of career coaching, Jerry South, was presented with the Veterans Alliance Organization's Ally of the Year award for 2021.
A 23-year veteran of the US Air Force, South serves as a VALOR ally and board member. South was chosen from among his peers as a key touchpoint for knowledge, assistance and guidance in helping military students achieve career goals appropriate to their advanced experience.

VALOR Ally of the Year (2020)
NDSU's assistant director for the Veterans Educational Training program, Jim Stoddard, was presented with the Veterans Alliance Organization's Ally of the Year award for 2020.
A 24-year veteran of the US Air Force, Stoddard serves as a VALOR ally and board member. Stoddard was chosen from among his peers as being critical to advancing many of NDSU's initiatives to make the campus more supportive of the unique needs of military students.

VALOR Ally of the Year (2019)
NDSU's Veterans Alliance Organization presented its "Ally of the Year" award for 2019 to Kevin Kettner.
Dr. Carol Cwiak, associate professor of emergency management and disaster sciences and faculty liaison for VALOR, presented the award.
Kettner, a US Navy veteran, is the academic advisor for the University Studies major, and was chosen by his peers due to his long history of serving and supporting military students at NDSU.
