Temporary Medical Accommodations

Temporary medical accommodations may be considered for students experiencing a short-term illness, injury, surgery, concussion, or other medical condition that temporarily affects their ability to fully participate in academic or university activities at NDSU. The purpose of a temporary medical accommodation is to reduce barriers created by the medical condition and provide reasonable access to the student’s educational program during the anticipated period of recovery. Requests are reviewed on an individualized, case-by-case basis and may require documentation from an appropriately qualified medical provider describing the condition, functional limitations, recommended restrictions or supports, and anticipated duration of the impairment. Depending on the documented functional impact, temporary accommodations may include reasonable flexibility with attendance or assignment deadlines, extended testing time, note-taking assistance, accessible seating, temporary mobility or transportation support, or other appropriate academic adjustments. Temporary accommodations are approved for a defined period and are intended to support access without changing essential academic or program requirements. At the conclusion of the approved period, accommodations may be discontinued, reviewed, or extended when supported by updated documentation and continued functional need.
