Small Group Tutoring
What is Small Group Tutoring?
Small Group Tutoring provides students in select courses with the opportunity to meet at a pre-scheduled time each week to work together to review course materials and ask questions. Groups consist of 3-5 students from the same course. Groups work with an ACE tutor who serves as a facilitator.
Benefits of Small Group Tutoring
Peer group learning is a proven way to get more out of your classes and learning. Small group tutoring at ACE helps facilitate the process for you. Students who benefit most from their groups are those who start early in the semester and commit to attending each week. Students who do report better grades, feelings of accomplishment and motivation, and even make new friends and connections. As with most things in life, you get out what you put into the group. If you come prepared with questions and are willing to participate in discussions about the material, you will learn a great deal.
Expectations for Small Group Tutoring
We know you are excited to start, but we have a few ground rules to know first!
- Attend class. Small group tutoring is not a substitute for your class, it's a supplement.
- Attend your scheduled session and arrive on time. Your group members and tutor really want you there.
- Come prepared to each tutoring session by bringing course materials and questions. Tutors are there to clarify concepts but will not have a lesson prepared.
- Participate as an active group member in each tutoring session.
- Abide by the NDSU Code of Academic Responsibility and Conduct.
- If you are unable to commit to a consistent time, Individual Tutoring or Drop-in Tutoring may be a better option for you.
